The new generation of metering cabinets is here – handles up to 1250 A

Holtab is launching an updated version of its metering cubicle for high-voltage metering at 12 and 24 kV.

“The new cubicle is not only more powerful – it is also easier to work with, thanks to a smarter design,” says Gordon Gunnarsson, Technical Manager at Holtab.

The updated design brings real benefits when it comes to delivery flexibility. Transformers can now be fitted later or replaced without the need to disconnect power cables.

“We can carry out the required safety tests and ship secondary substations to customers even if one or more measuring transformers are delayed. The transformers can then be delivered directly to site and installed there – saving both time and effort,” Gordon explains.

The new, more powerful cubicles have been tested in line with current standards and are rated for up to 1250 A.

Robust performance

The measuring cubicles for high-voltage applications now feature a more compact enclosure, busbar systems for both 630 A and 1250 A, and improved corrosion protection. In addition, the earthing braid of the incoming cables can be connected more easily at the front.

“Transformers can now be installed and replaced individually. This makes the work significantly easier, less heavy, and possible for one person to manage,” says Gordon.

Another improvement is that parallel cables for incoming and outgoing phase conductors can now be connected. This means, for example, that two smaller cables can be used instead of one large.

The cubicles are tested to withstand up to 25 kA for one second in short-circuit strength – enabling the entire cubicle to cope with a very high short circuit.

“That’s excellent strength,” Gordon concludes.
