‘Security has always been important at Holtab. My role is to take a holistic view and, together with the organisation, develop our working methods and procedures as the business evolves,’ says Jens.
Holtab has been fortunate to avoid incidents and external interference, but the company has grown, and updated procedures will bring significant benefits, particularly in the long term. Electrical power is a vital resource for society, and Holtab wants to ensure that it can always deliver fault-free products manufactured under controlled conditions.
‘We are not subject to security classification under the Swedish Protective Security Act, but many of our customers are. Requirements for us may increase in the future, and if they do, we want to have done the necessary work well in advance.’
Strengthened perimeter security
Initially, the focus will be on strengthening perimeter security at Holtab’s factories. The aim is to minimise the risk of secondary substations and materials being stolen, sabotaged or tampered with.
‘We are starting with measures at the factory in Tingsryd and will then continue with our factories in Olofström and Lidhult,’ says Jens.
With a new access control system and security cameras, Holtab will have greater control over who enters and moves around the Tingsryd site, helping to ensure that all products are protected from external interference.
‘Some changes have already come into effect, including new access procedures and a visitor management system. This means that our customers and partners are already beginning to notice the changes.’
Electrical power is a vital resource
Jens previously served as Head of Security at the Port of Karlshamn, where he helped build up the security organisation. He envisages a similar development at Holtab.
‘We are doing this together and taking a long-term approach. It is important that everyone working at Holtab feels that they have an important contribution to make in achieving the highest possible level of security,’ says Jens.
In addition to physical security, Holtab will review and further develop its information security with the aim of achieving ISO 27001 certification. This will include new procedures governing, among other things, what information can be sent by email.
