The challenge
The climate crisis and the recent development of electricity costs requires a more efficient use of energy. As a designer and manufacturer of prefabricated systems for power distribution Holtab wants to ensure that these systems are as energy efficient as possible.
Buildings housing equipment used for power distribution often require both heating and cooling. Some equipment generates significant amounts of waste heat and needs cooling while other equipment is sensitive to colder temperatures. Heating and cooling require energy and thereby reduce the efficiency of the system.
The goal of this thesis project is to find a method of reusing the waste heat generated in electrical equipment to maintain an acceptable temperature in other areas where heating might be needed and thereby reduce the need of additional heating or cooling.
The work will include:
- Exploring alternative use cases for waste heat from power systems
- Creating a model for reusing waste heat using available hardware and programming
- Testing above model by simulating scenarios with varying system loads
About you
You’re one or two motivated individuals with an interest in sustainability and power systems. We believe that you’re in your final year of your MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems, Automation and Mechatronics or similar.
Project start: Spring semester 2023
Place: Remotly or at one of our offices in Kungsbacka or Tingsryd Sweden
